About This Course
This course will take students beyond traditional algebra. The new Common Core State Standards, especially the Standards for Mathematical Practice require students to reason and think critically about mathematics, especially in how it applies to the world around them. The state of New York shares the same view on education as California and is working hard to change the way math is taught. Engage NY has developed a curriculum that works to integrate mathematics with the world outside the classroom and to break the chains from traditional textbook learning. This course is taught with the Engage NY curriculum as the framework and will include a diverse set of supplemental materials. This will help student be more comfortable in approaching, wrestling with, and solving diverse problems – just like the world around them will present.
