Game of Decade – Order of Operations Card Game

Partner or small group activity.

  • Each group will need a deck of cards with the face cards removed.
  • The class or teacher can choose a decade between 10 and 100 for each round (ex: 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, or 90).
  • Each player then chooses 4 cards from the team deck and writes a number sentence using an operations to get an answer inside the chosen decade.
  • Problems are recorded on paper.
  • The teams earn one point for each correct solution.
  • The first team to remove all cards from their deck is the winner.

Example:

  • One player draws a 6, 5, 4, ans an Ace (1)
  • Students could make (6×5) + 4 – 1 = 33
